Recent accomplishments of undergraduates in the Scripps College of Communication include:
- Ohio University’s student chapter of the National Press Photographers Association (NPPA) has been named the 2009 Outstanding Student Chapter by the NPPA Awards and Recognitions committee for the fourth consecutive year.
- The Ohio University student chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ) has once again been named Outstanding Campus Chapter in Region 4 and was recognized during the national SPJ Convention & National Journalism Conference on August 28 in Indianapolis.
- Ohio University Forensics Team members reached a hard-earned, long-running goal when they placed 7th at the National Forensic Association tournament in mid-April and ranked 10th nationally of 82 college teams at the American Forensics Association National Individual Events Tournament in April. This is the first time the team has ranked in the top ten since 2002.
- More than 70 students in the School of Media Arts and Studies produced “Trailerpark,” a feature-length film adapted from the work of award-winning author Russell Banks, during winter and spring quarter. The film was screened on campus June 7 and at the Lake Placid Film Forum in New York on June 13.
- Student in the J. Warren McClure School of Information and Telecommunication Systems competed in the second annual Accenture Challenge in May. The two-week competition, designed by ITS alumni now working at Accenture, a technology consulting firm, simulates real-world technology, communication and networking experience for students in the school.
