The Scripps College of Communication is a leader in graduate education, offering innovative, nationally ranked programs ranging from one-year master's degrees for professionals taking the next step in their careers to doctoral programs that prepare the next generation of teachers, scholars and industry leaders. Graduate students join an active, diverse and talented academic community, representing many disciplines and professions, and many parts of the world. Creative, award-winning faculty bring a broad range of professional and academic experiences, innovative teaching practices, smart technology and grant-funded research projects to graduate education.
Master's programs are available in Communication Systems Management, Journalism, Media Arts and Studies, Visual Communication and Communication and Development Studies. Doctoral programs are offered in Communication Studies and in Mass Communication, through either the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism or the School of Media Arts and Studies. The College is currently developing several online graduate programs. Each program offers a limited number of graduate assistantships in teaching, hands-on media work or research, and/or tuition scholarships.

Applicants must submit all college transcripts, letters of recommendation, Graduate Record Exam scores and a non-refundable application fee. The fee is $50 USD for U.S. citizens and permanent residents, and $55 USD for international applicants. Letters of recommendation and personal goals statements should be sent directly to the school to which you are seeking admission. Other application materials should be sent to Graduate Student Services. Master of Science in Journalism through the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism The program provides opportunities to study professional journalism or prepare for further academic work by blending professionally oriented classes with mass communication principles, theory and research. Courses are available in broadcast journalism, magazine journalism, news writing/editing, public relations and multimedia (with Telecommunications and Visual Communication).

Master of Arts in International Affairs through Communication and Development Studies, a partnership between the School of Telecommunications and the Center for International Studies. The program stresses the use of communication to promote and support positive social development. The curriculum includes interdisciplinary perspectives on national development, area studies, and training in applied research methods.
