Graduate students in the Scripps College of Communication at Ohio
University earn accolades for research on a regular basis. Some recent
accomplishments include:
- Dan Reimold, who recently completed his Ph.D. in Mass
Communication, has been named one of the top 25 Great Ideas for
Teachers (GIFT) scholars by the Association for Education in Journalism
and Mass Communication (AEJMC). Two of his papers--"Playboy for the
College Set: The Rise and Impact of Campus Sex Magazines" and "Fighting
Back the Heathens: Sex, Controversy, and Censorship in the Modern
Campus Media"--have been selected for presentation at the AEJMC
conference in August in Chicago, Il. He has also been awarded a
Fulbright to travel to Singapore to conduct research on student media.
- Karen Greiner, a doctoral student in communication studies,
is Ohio University's first Fulbright scholar to travel to Colombia,
where she will continue her research on creative communication for
social change. She also received a $5,300 Student Enhancement Award
from Ohio University's Council on Research, Scholarship and Creative
Activity to examine the role of non-governmental organizations in
implementing a script-writing contest for young people on issues of
HIV/AIDS in Senegal last year.
