Eddith Dashiell rejoined the Dean’s Office staff in July 2007 as Assistant Dean for Undergraduate Programs and Services in the Scripps College of Communication at Ohio University in Athens. Her duties include oversight of student records and services, upholding standards, recruitment, scholarships, parent relations and student leadership development.
Dr. Dashiell also oversees the college’s Residential Learning Communities, whereby first-quarter freshmen take a package of three classes together and live in the same residence hall as an aid to the transition from high school and as a foundation for greater academic success for students.
Prior to this position, Dr. Dashiell served as assistant provost for multicultural graduate affairs in the Office of Graduate Studies for two years. Since 1992, Dr. Dashiell has taught media law and broadcast journalism classes in the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism. Also while at Ohio University, Dr. Dashiell has also served as associate dean in the Scripps College of Communication, 2002-2005; associate director of the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism, 1998-2001; director of studies in journalism, Honors Tutorial College,1996-2005; and director of the Scripps High School Journalism Workshop, 1993-2000.
She has also served in numerous positions within the television and radio broadcast industry, as well as in the public sector.
Dr. Dashiell earned a doctorate degree in Mass Communications from Indiana University, a master’s degree in History and a bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications, both from Middle Tennessee State University.
Dr. Dashiell’s teaching and interest areas include communications law and policy, mass communication history and broadcast journalism.
In her spare time (and with her spare resources), Dr. Dashiell supports CEDEINFA (the Center for the Complete Development for Children and their Families), a community service project in San Salvador. She currently serves as the international coordinator for the organization.
