Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Studies

David Mould

David Mould, professor of telecommunications, joined the Dean’s Office as associate dean for research and graduate studies in July 2004. His responsibilities include helping faculty develop grant proposals for research and sponsored programs, promoting graduate student research and creative activity, providing administrative support for the college’s five master’s and two Ph.D. programs, and supervising international and special projects.

Before joining the Scripps College, David served as director of the graduate program in Communication and Development Studies, and as the founding director of the Global Leadership Center, an interdisciplinary undergraduate certificate program in which students undertake projects on international issues.

He holds a doctorate degree from Ohio University's Individual Interdisciplinary Program (History, American Literature and Geography), a master's degree in Radio-TV-Film, and a bachelor's degree in European Studies.

His professional experience is as a newspaper reporter, television news producer, public radio producer, and documentary researcher, writer and director. He has experience in international media consulting and training, particularly in Central and Southeast Asia, and was a Fulbright Senior Scholar in the Kyrgyz Republic in 1996-1997. His research areas are post-Soviet media, television and film history, media in war and conflict, and oral history.
